Write Or Wrong 80

Politically Incorrect

So, how many of you fine folks heard about those documents that surfaced this week regarding now President George W. Bush's time in the Texas Air National Guard? Yes, it's always been speculated that he didn't exactly serve his term of service in the most honourably. Hell, most people don't even believe that he actually served time. But this week those memos, apparently written the by 1st Lt. Bush's commanding officer Col. Jerry Killian, stated that Bush was allowed to run a campaign for office while he was supposed to be serving his term and that Col. Killian's superiors asked that he "sugar coat" Bush's record. Now if that isn't bothersome, I don't know what is.

But here's the catch: The memos are most likely quite fake. Initially reported by Dan Rather, these documents were thought to be some very damning evidence of Bush's less than satisfactory service record and a solid blow to his campaign. But after they were examined, it turned out that the font of the letters and the space between them was not accurate and did not correspond with that of typewriters used in that era. So there went any and all evidence of Pres. Bush and his less than stellar service record.

After this came to light it gave Republicans a lot of ammo to say that it was the Kerry campaign that circulated this bogus memo to the press in hopes of somehow bolstering their campaign. They spoke of how this was consistent with the amateurish methods of Kerry and his campaign leaders. Simply, it allowed the Republicans yet another chance to rip into the democrats.

And while all of this seems simple and rather cut and dry, I have a weird feeling about it. Now I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but here's a theory that I thought of that seems rather plausible. Now think about it, the Kerry campaign is faltering heavily but the Bush campaign isn't exactly a vote making machine either. The Republicans fabricate some bogus documentation and release it to the public hoping that it will have the intended reaction of getting people up in arms against Bush. But it's all misdirection as the documentation would eventually be proven to be not authentic. This would allow the Republicans and Bush to gain a reason to further lambaste the Democrats and a means to gain some type of voting jump in support of them. And by the end of the week everyone's eyes would be focused on the spectre of 9/11 and would thus quickly forget or be distracted from this little fiasco. And by the time it came back into the public eye, it would seem like it really was the Democrats who fabricated those documents. But then again, I could be wrong.

So, in the end we're getting down to the wire as to who will be our next President. And while I don't like either candidate, I hope Kerry wins. But I get the sneaking suspicion that Bush will win the day and we'll have another four years of "One nation under God and corporations."

Lastly, this week I'd like to remind you that Saturday is Sept. 11th and marks the third anniversary of the World Trade Center event. Yeah, I know, I make it sound so sanitized. The `event'. Thousands of peoples live were lost that day and millions had their lives thrown into complete and utter chaos by the terrorist action that engulfed the United States. I'm not going to go into some elaborate diatribe about politics and government policies and the like. I just want to remind you all that a great tragedy happened on this day three years ago and we should remember those unfortunate souls who didn't make it through that day, the brave individuals who risked their lives saving others, and the families of those lost on that horrific day. That event transpired not forty miles from where I lived at the time and I'll always be affected by it. But I guess it'll stay with all of us for the rest of our lives. Here's to those who aren't with us. May they rest in peace.
