Goof Troop

As I type this column, I'm watching the wonderful, oft-lamented "Pootie Tang". It's a woefully underappreciated comedy chronicling the exploits of the title character and his buddies, Trucky, Biggie Shorty, & JB. Think of it as one part 70's blaxploitation flick, one part irreverent comedy, and all goofball mentality. It's the kind of comedy I love. I doesn't try to be profound and meaningful. It doesn't take itself seriously, it just has fun. It's goofy.

Just like "Anchorman", "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle", or any Christopher Guest film ("A Mighty Wind", "Best in Show", "Spinal Tap"), goofy comedies are just plain fun. I've gotten rather annoyed at the trend lately where people want to seem cool and sophisticated so they trash stuff that isn't serious or dramatic. Why does everything have to be about serious topics? Not everything have to be dark and gloomy for it to be good. People tend to say that it's because it's more relatable. They say that it's because drama and serious topics are more common to everyday life. Well, just remember that life can be fun, goofy and just plain not serious.

The Question

Okay, so I'm taking a poll for an upcoming column. Yes, an actual column, no this little crap one I wrote this week. So help me out an e-mail me your responses.

What is the worst film you've ever seen? The best?

What is your favourite type of music? Favourite artist?

What is the greatest single piece of art you've ever seen/heard?

Thanks for your help.
