The Election Blues

We've been waiting all these months, hell, over a year and a half for the Gomery results and they have finally come out. The basic gist of the report is that former Prime Minister Jean Chretien and others in his Cabinet were responsible for the entire Sponsorship Scandal, which cost taxpayers millions, and current Prime Minister Paul Martin is innocent. But, that doesn't mean that the Liberal Party is innocent.

The poll numbers have shown that the Liberals have taken a hit because of the results despite the fact that the current make-up of the Liberal Party isn't the same as the one under Chretien. I have a hard time deciding if that's fair. On one hand, I think it is because the Liberals deserve to get their asses handed to them for what they've done. On the other, it is a different party in many ways. Is it fair to punish the new for the sins of the old?

Honestly, it doesn't matter because an election is coming no matter what, the only question is when. Some say December, others say February. I, personally, think February will do better. The end of December means a Christmas election, and who wants that?

It really depends on what the Tories, NDP and PQ decide. Last I heard, Jack Layton of the NDP was thinking February, but now, it seems that December is what the other two parties are pushing for. And I think that's a mistake that will cost them.

No one wants to vote at the end of December and because of that, voters will punish the people who called it. That's the way it works, sadly, and the Liberals deserve to get their asses handed to them.

But, hey, if the Tories and the others can't see that, fuck them. Hell, I'm betting that it's Harper who's the idiot pushing for a Christmas election and if that's the case, the Tories deserve to lose out o votes because of it.

The way the election should happen is that the Liberals will come in first, but in another minority government. The Tories will gain a little, the PQ will hold steady and the NDP will also gain. That's the way it should happen. With any luck, that's the way it will happen.

What it basically comes down to is the NDP, I figure. They have the votes to make sure that an election happens in February when the people will be ready for one. If Layton has any brains in his head, he'll stand his ground and push for the February election. Sadly, I'm not convinced he will. He still suffers under the delusion that the NDP can actually win and will be looking to not look weak or on the side of the Liberals. What he needs to realise is that his party will do better in February and that he needs to stand not with the Tories and PQ, but against the Liberals and for Canada.

Guys like Stephen Harper don't realise shit like that. They're just so set on destroying their enemy that they can't think straight. Layton is in a unique position where he has no enemy, but just rivals that he hopes to gain ground on. It will especially work well for him if the Tories push for a December election and he pushes for February. He'll come off looking much better.

And the Liberals will still lose ground. Hell, maybe the Tories will as well, with any luck.
