When Both Sides Are Wrong

This past week, I was shown once again that I can't stand the Israelis or the Palestinians, and that I wish they'd just shut the fuck up. Of course, my problem isn't even with the actual Israelis or Palestinians, it's with the people who live here that insist upon fucking up Canada the same way they've fucked up Israel/Palestine/whatever the fuck you want to call it.

On Monday, in the University Community Centre at my school, there was yet another example of why both sides are stupid, irrational and accomplish nothing but make people like me say "Fuck it, I don't care anymore!" See, a Palestinian club of some sort decided to create a paper wall to symbolise the wall built in Israel and this basically set off the Israeli students and next thing you know, you have people yelling and arguing with one another right in the main foyer. It was stupid and senseless.

You see, there's something most of these people forget and it's a really, REALLY simple fact: WE ARE IN CANADA! I know they feel strongly about it, but you know what? Arguing and bitching about it in London, Ontario, Canada isn't going to do anything but piss people off and cause problems.

Hell, more often than not, the people here are worse about it than people who are actually living in Israel. For example, there was a big ado about having Tel Aviv get broadcasting rights here in Canada because they were either anti-Israel or anti-Palestinian or whatever, but as one of the people who work there pointed out: the channel is aired in Israel and Palestine with no problems. The problem is everyone over here is so comfortable and secure in their lives that they have nothing better to do than play the victim and blame the other side for the supposed hardships they're inflicting on their "people" halfway around the world. It's tiring and it's just . . . it's just stupid.

Of course, this leads to the larger issue, which I might as well discuss now (and I am terribly aware of the fact that I'm kind of doing what I was bitching about, but since I'm an outsider in this whole thing, I think it's different . . . kind of). Here's the deal: both sides are completely wrong and completely right. They are wrong when they say they are the victims and they are right when they say the other side are murderous fucks. Both sides have committed horrible atrocities and it doesn't fucking matter which side has more dead kids or whatever, because that's still two sides with a lot of dead kids. Can't they see that?

I may have given this solution before (it's one I stole from Peter David, who in one of his Star Trek: New Frontier novels had an analogous situation and basically had the captain use this solution) , but it's one I like, for some reason, so I'm going to give it again: fuck it, nuke Israel. Oh, I'm serious. It's crazy, it's stupid and it's reckless, but sorry, if you can't play nice with the Holy Land, no one fucking gets it. We tell everyone they have, oh, let's say six months to get out or they get nuked too and then we destroy it. Oh, it will piss people off to no end, but what else are you supposed to do? Peace isn't going to happen. Might as well just accept that, because they won't share Jerusalem and the only other option is wiping out one side completely. Just blow the fucking place up and settle it once and for all. Hey, that solution would probably even unite the two groups in a common sense of outrage.

I don't know, I'm just tired of this fucking pointless issue where it's so obvious that both sides have their heads stuck asses and can't see the truth about the situation or about themselves. I just want the fighting to stop, because I don't like having to navigate my way through angry mobs just to get a fucking hamburger for lunch.
