Shut Up And Listen 189

One Final Plea For Reason And Sanity

For the love of god, do not vote for Bush! Seriously! Don't! Please!

I cannot stress how important this is. I know, I know, that's all you've been hearing lately. "Vote! It's important!" and instinctively, you think, "Fuck that shit!" but that is wrong. No, what you've got to do is suck it up, ignore the fact that a bunch of celebrities are out there trying to influence you and go vote for Kerry. Fuck anyone who says you just have to get out there and vote, they're morons. I'd rather you didn't vote at all if you're going to vote for Bush. Seriously, if you're going to vote for Bush, ignore all that shit about voting being important, because it does not apply to you. You think democracy is great, right? And that America is a good country? You want all that to remain? Then do the right thing and either vote for Kerry or stay home, because you do anything else and you're just saying, "Well, yeah, but I also like the idea that anyone--including a redneck with average intelligence, no sense of tact and doesn't even consider the idea that maybe, just maybe, he should take a look at what he's done and reconsider." Oh yeah, that's what you're saying right there.

My god, what kind of idiot elects someone based on whether or not it's the kind of person they'd like to hang out with? I wouldn't vote for any of my friends and for good reason too. Oh, I'll hang out with them, go to concerts, go to movies and all of that, but make them leader of a country? Are you fucking insane? Why would I ever vote for someone who's a "common man"? When I look for a leader, I want a pretentious, asshole genius who knows he's better than all of us and isn't afraid to show it. Sure, Bush thinks he's better than everyone, but that's just because of the family he was born into, not because he actually is. And I know recently there's been this sort of outcry against people who think Bush is stupid, but come on. I'm not talking about campaign smarts or charisma or any of those other "kinds of smart" they love to bring out, I'm talking about actual fucking intelligence that allows you to make quality decisions, because if you've been paying attention the past four years, you'll know that he does not possess that kind of intelligence.

On the subject of terrorism and people wondering if Kerry can catch terrorists as well as Bush, let me ask you something: when did Bush actually capture a terrorist or directly cause one to be caught? Seriously. Because if you're referring to anyone in Afghanistan, I'm sorry, but who wouldn't have said "Hey, let's attack Afghanistan where all the terrorists seem to be hanging out"? Let's be honest and say that the president doesn't really do a lot in the whole "catching terrorists" field. He makes some nice speeches, he talks to some people, but ultimately, it's the people whose job it is to catch terrorists who do that and I sincerely doubt that electing John Kerry is going to make them all start slacking off.

Bush may not have caught terrorists, but he did kind of help create a whole new batch with that whole invading Iraq thing. So maybe when people say they trust him the most to capture terrorists, what they really mean is that he should clean up the mess he started. A sound idea, you know, if a person creates a mess, they should clean it up, but maybe this isn't the area to be trying out this sort of thing.

Then there is the issue of the rest of the world. I've heard a lot of Americans say that they don't care what the rest of the world thinks and to be honest, those people are short-sighted arrogant fools who are the people who stand around wondering why there are other people in the world who want to fly planes into their buildings. Of course you should fucking care what the rest of the world thinks, especially your closest allies! Think about it this way: you have America and you have its group of friends, Canada, England, France, Germany, Spain and all of those other guys who share most of the same values as you and generally want to work as a team where everyone benefits. Oh, there's some friendly competition, but when it comes down to it, they all want what's best for each other. Now, in this situation, when America says they want to do something and most of their friends say "Hey, that's a dumb fucking idea!" wouldn't we all say that it's probably a smart idea for America to perhaps, I don't know, listen to its friends?

Get this through your head: Canada and the western European countries don't want the US to be attacked or get fucked over in some other big way.

Fuck it. It's too late for all of this, isn't it? People like me have been saying this shit for years now and if it hasn't made a difference yet, it never will. I just hope any American reading this thinks things through and looks beyond stupid fucking partisanship to what's really happened since Bush took over. And really, if you're going to vote for Bush, stay home. I'd really appreciate it.

Next week: extreme relief or extreme anger . . . you decide!
