Shut Up And Listen 78 Regime Change I’m sure we’ve all heard that term in the past few weeks. That’s what must be done in Iraq: a “regime change.” Throughout this whole thing, I’ve been left wondering when America would make a “regime change” happen in another country that does not subscribe to America’s view of what the world should be. This country spends somewhere between two and three times the amount of money on their military than healthcare in their country. This of course, makes it possible for citizens of this country to die because they can’t get proper treatment. This country’s leader was not elected. No, he seized power in what is called a “bloodless coup.” The citizens of this country recognize that he is in power illegally, but fear to do anything because he has the might of the military behind him. This country has weapons of mass destruction and has used them. There has been talk of using them again. This country has been particularly aggressive this past year in a global sense. It has often made threats to those who do not comply with its wishes. It has killed innocent people in its efforts to win its wars. This country has not signed various UN documents on human rights that are globally accepted. This country holds “aggressors” without trial, legal counsel or any rights. It does so unapologetically and says it’s for “security reasons.” I could go on, but I won’t. One would think these reasons would be enough for Bush to be out there, demanding that the US invade this country and make a “regime change.” But that would mean him losing his job, wouldn’t it? You Fucking Hypocrites Remember those four Canadian soldiers that were killed in Afghanistan earlier this year? They were part of a unit that was doing night training and then were bombed by a US aircraft. The two pilots who flew said aircraft and then killed those Canadian soldiers have had charges recommended against them after the US inquiry into the subject was completed. The recommended charges are things like involuntary manslaughter and negligence and shit like that. Personally, I would want stronger charges. This thing still pisses me off. Here we had Canadian forces over in Afghanistan helping the Bush Regime out with its War On Terrorism and they get bombed by US forces. The pilots wilfully ignored orders and murdered four Canadian citizens! But, oh well, oops, who gives a shit about the Canadians, eh? I want these fuckers’ heads nailed to the wall (figuratively)! Fuck, if the situation was reversed and four US soldiers were killed . . . well, honestly, I don’t quite know what would happen, but I imagine I’d be saying the Pledge Of Allegiance every morning or some shit like that now. The point is that the US are hypocrites. They hold everyone else in the world to high standards that the US fall so far below it makes me sick. They can go around doing whatever the fuck they feel like doing and say, “Oh, well, if you don’t like it, you’re next, you terrorist-loving fuckers!” I am scared to death of what the US will do next. They know they’re the most powerful country in the world and can really do whatever they want. Their culture is one that is deeply rooted in violence and an inflated blind patriotism that makes them believe that they represent the Lord Almighty and to fuck with them is to fuck with God, who will smite your non-believing ass. To them everyone is Us and Them. Every situation is black and white. Two sides. The only thing is that like their political system, both sides essentially act the same. That is probably the saddest part of the whole thing. No, the saddest part is all the innocent people caught in the middle. Because killing innocent people in Afghanistan and Iraq isn’t the exact same as what happened at the World Trade Centre. Except this time it’s 100% state-sponsored terrorism by those claiming to be against it. Like I said, hypocrites. I Hate You, Ralph Klein This week, the first privately owned medical clinic in Canada opened in Alberta. Don’t call it a hospital; call it the end of fucking compassion and the embrace of money. I believe in universal healthcare strongly. I think that it is one of the features that separates civilised countries from uncivilised ones. If you don’t care enough about your fellow person to give a little to make sure everyone has access to healthcare then you aren’t civilised. Valuing money over people is not civilised. I want every person who supports privatized healthcare to have to watch every person who can’t afford it die. I’m serious. They essentially killed those people, so they should at least admire their work. Fucking savages in this world. Quick Stuff Please, if you have any comments on this or any of my other columns, send me an e-mail at chevett13@yahoo.ca. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Even if they are in conflict to mine. Especially if they’re in conflict to mine. And once again, I am truly sorry and troubled by the terrorist attacks against the US last year. Any loss of life is to be mourned. I wish people would learn that violence is not a means to an end; it is just a means to more violence. It is a shame that this horrible tragedy has not enlightened most to this fact. Hopefully it will not take many more loses of life for people to realise this.
