Monday April 30, 2001 Shut Up and Listen Okay, I’ve been finding this column to be hell. When I have to write it, I can’t come up with any ideas and when I just wrote one, I have a bunch. So, starting now, I’ll write when I want and still put it all under one column. When I write on a different day, I’ll include that date so there’s a sense of continuity. I think you’ll like to column much better this way. Valedictorian Farce Yes, since I am graduating high school this year it is time for the selection of the valedictorian. That took place this morning and it was a farce. The valedictorian is almost always the person graduating with the highest GPA, but not at STA. No, we nominate anyone graduating and then vote. The smartest person didn’t win. A smart person did not win. Geoff Garrod’s victory in the voting has pissed off many. Now, don’t take this as me wanting to valedictorian. I’m not the smartest person graduating. Ryan Morris is. He wasn’t nominated. Three quarters of the nominees were crap. Over the past year, I’ve learned one thing: democracy sucks. Hopeless Romantics People are always blaming TV and the media for violence in the youth, but we’ve all been overlooking the biggest danger to society. This affliction has caused much torment to many. I’m talking about the affliction of the hopeless romantic. My friends and I are, for the most part, geeks. Also, we are all hopeless romantics. We all grew up watching TV shows where the guy pines over some girl for like five years, confesses his undying love and then they make with the lovin’. THAT, not violence, has warped today’s youth. Now, anytime I get a little fucking crush it lasts for at least a year. It’s very annoying. I say that we stop romantic pieces of shit from being shown. Just say no to chick flics, they rot the brain. Tuesday May 1, 2001 I Am Fan-Fugu-Tastic! Today I got a response from Ray, the guy I sent my samples to. He liked them. He’s interested in me possibly doing it down the road in six page increments for some anthology series. I am on cloud fucking nine right now. I sent in my six page story Am I Evil? for possible use if he likes it. I am at the edge of realizing my lifelong dream of being a comic writer. more will be told when I know more. Thursday May 3, 2001 More Fan-Fugu-Tastic! They want three six page increments. Boo-yah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Friday May 4, 2001 What A Week As you can tell it’s been quite a week. Here’s a quick rundown: I am on the verge of realizing my dream of being published as a comic writer. Lunchbox was having huge girl problems (more on this next week after I hear how it all turned out) and that occupied much of my brain for the first few days. I’ve decided that my life is in purgatory right now: nothing too good, nothing too bad. I’m trying my hardest to be pragmatic about the comic thing as not to jinx it. So, I wonder why I bother getting up in the morning, but have no good reasons to kill myself. Limbo. Heard the BEST CONVERSATION EVER today in drama class. there are only three guys in this class of ten and Lunchbox wasn’t present today. He had a hair appointment, wanted to look nice for the aforementioned girl. The other guy wasn’t at class yet, neither was the teacher. And keep in mind that for the most part, I’m invisible. Girls cannot see me. Are you ready? If ever I could go back and relive a conversation, this would be it. They had a nice ten to fifteen minute conversation on their breast sizes. I’m not kidding. Apparently most of the girls in my class got screwed in the gene pool because all of their relatives are big breasted and they aren’t. I didn’t feel it proper to correct any of them for a fear of being thought of as perverted or something, I don’t know. So I just sat there trying to keep quiet and not ruin the moment. I also had to alot part of brain to thinking of rather disgusting things so that something very embarrassing wouldn’t happen. Yes, that. Also learned that one of the girls in my class can flex her pectoral muscles, but she wouldn’t demonstrate much to my chagrin. And to anyone who has the audacity to say that guys are most dirty and disgusting than girls, here’s a little portion of that conversation: Girl 1: Hey, [name removed], are you a virgin? Girl 2: That’s between me, myself and I. Girl 1: Yeah, and your hand. Check and mate, people. Downloaded a bunch of shit from Napster. Mostly South Park songs, some Matt Good, the Star Trek fight song, a couple of songs from some movies, George’s answering machine message from Seinfeld and a couple songs from the Hip. Finally the Marcy Playground site is back up. I learned that if I send ten bucks I can get their demo CD that contains a bunch of songs I don’t got and want. The Leafs evened the series against the Devils and Domi took his cheap shot against Niedermayer. I don’t condone what he did, but I understand it. He was suspended from the rest of the playoffs and rightfully so. Shouldn’t do shit like that. Canadian Politics One of my favourite topics. I love politics and enjoy Canadian politics far more than American mainly because I’m Canadian. Stockwell Day, leader of the Alliance Party is still the leader of the Alliance Party despite the resignations of the Deputy Leader, the House Speaker and Deputy House Speaker because they could no longer support him. Mr. Day’s ratings are below Jean Chretien’s in Alberta, Day’s home province. I think that Day isn’t doing what’s best for his party, but for himself. If he wanted the party to flourish, he’d quit and never emerge again. But he isn’t. Day’s problem began when he lost a lawsuit and billed Alberta for it. He made some rather dumb comments about the defence attorney of a child-porn case. said lawyer sued Day and won. Day paid the guy with taxpayers’ money. Strike one! Next, I hear he’s had some problems with bilingualism. He’s against it or something. Honestly, I don’t know that much but apparently there’s been some problems for him because of this. Strike two! Then there was the whole “scandal” of Chretien owning a part of some hotel and giving government grants to the golf course across the street to get better business. Chretien was cleared of all charges. Day did get in some hot water when it was exposed that he hired a private eye to investigate the whole matter. Something’s wrongs with that, I guess. Regular people can do it, but politicians can’t, go figure. Strike three, he should be out! Saturday May 5, 2001 One Down, Two To Go Just sent in part one of After Sol. Six pages. i sent the e-mail first without attaching the script. Hopefully, Ray will just chock this up to nervousness or something and not hold it against me. Would you want a moron working for you? Pop Magic! Started using it last night. Created my first sigil and everything. Just have to charge it. I don’t know what to make of Morrison’s pop magic, but I’ll give it a try. Works for him, so why not me? Later that evening . . . Created another sigil for my sister to get this day-camp job in the summer. I charged it earlier. Still have to charge my other sigil. Also, spent the entire day following Morrison’s exercise of looking at everything as if it were trying to tell you something. Why are all the posters above my desk in my room Marvel? Is it because I like Marvel more? Why are all the posters of hot chicks around my bed? Why is it that every CD I own either has a vowel as it’s second letter, or R or H? I’m talking about the artist’s name. What does that mean? Could it be a way of spelling out hear? Saw lots of red joined with green today. Don’t know what that means either. These are just four examples off the top of my head. I find that with meditation from Mr. McD from school and this that I am at peace a bit more. I’m calmer. I appreciate things more. Get A Job That’s what my mom tells me. I haven’t told her yet about my comic deal yet. Mother’s Day is next Sunday and I can’t think of a better present (that I can afford) than her learning that her little boy is going to be published (although right now that is not certain). It was really hard earlier when I got the lecture in little smart-ass comments at supper from not just my mom, but my sisters, too. I bite my tongue though. Cheap Books Got Q-In-Law and Imzadi by Peter David for $4.50 total. Have to go back and pick up more cheap books. They didn’t have Q-Squared and that’s my personal fav of David’s novels. Did have the first four New Frontier book set for $14. Most of the books were $2-$5.
