It makes me sick. I look around, everywhere I go, and I see people milling about their daily routine, with one thing on their mind. It's a drug. Fully legal, in every state in the world. Highly addictive. The more you use, the more you want. Some people will do anything to get their daily fix. The dizzy heights of supreme physical degradation are certainly no distraction for some. So how do people get addicted to this drug in the first place? often, they are introduced to it by their parents of all people, at a very young age. They start you off with a small amount, and you get your first taste. All too quickly, you want more. You try doing things for your parents just to get your fix. Washing up, mowing the lawn. All well and good. But then you get older. as you grow older, you need more and more of this drug for sustenance. All through your schooling, you think about the best subjects to learn, so you stand the best chance of getting as much of this drug as possible. Because when you leave school, and people do this at ages ranging from 14 to 25, you need to get as much of this drug as possible, because other people want their share. You end up agreeing to do mindless repetitive tasks every day of your life until you reach sixty five, in exchange for a shipment of drugs every week. But all the time, other people want their share. Your landlard wants his share, in return for you living in his house. The gas company, electricity company, water company, television company, all want their share, in return for supplying you with modern conveniences that you barely have time to appreciate in your mad search for more drugs. The government want their share, so they can tempt people into improving various systems around the country which don't need improvement, or to trade for military arms. And all the time, the value of this drug is steadily decreasing. Every day, you need more and more of it to get the things you want. You, and the rest of the world, are slowly building a tolerance to the most deadly drug of all. Money. I look around, everywhere I go, and I see people milling about their daily routine, with nothing but money on their minds. So utterly dependant on money are some people that they will not do ANYTHING unless they receive some kind of compensation. And I'm not just talking about little chores. There are some people around who, if they witnessed a stabbing and were able to apprehend the criminal responsible, would only do so if there was a reward out for them. Likewise they would turn their back on the hapless victim unless he or she looked wealthy enough to imbue them with riches. Then there are the people who will try anything to get easy money, no matter who they hurt in the process. Lawyers, who know their client is guilty as sin, but still announce their innocence because they're client is incredibly wealthy and paying them millions. I watch TV, and see countless adverts for compensation claim companies. Seems that these days, if you trip over in the street, you can sue the council and get a quick five grand. I've no doubt the compensation packages far outweigh the actual trauma inflicted in an accident of any kind. Don't get me started on the entertainment industry. The number of movies, video games, television programmes, even books that have been scrapped, even though they would have been truly groundbreaking, simply because they wouldn't pull in enough cash is astronomical.Oh, people wouldn't 'get' that. We'd make more money if we churned out this clone of [insert movie, video game, TV programme, or book of your choice here]. Not quite as bad, but still in the same league are those movies, Games, TV shows or books that have truly groundbreaking content, but are "dumbed down" to appeal to a wider audience. The true fans of whatever genre these items fall into get well and truly shafted. But it's OK, because they make more money, right? And then, there's the people who will spend their entire lives trapped in an endless circle of tedium and mindless similarity because they're "Earning a fantastic wage." I ask you all reading this now: What use is money when you die? Can you take it with you? Can you use it to bribe whatever entities may be lurkijng beyond that final threshold? No. What use is a million dollars if you never have the time to spend it? For all its value, money is utterly worthless. I'm not saying you can live without it, nor am I imploring you all to quit your jobs. Just think about it for a moment. Think about doing something to help out, and not asking anything in return. Money makes the world go round. But nobody has time to appreciate the damned place while it does. I think of all the things that money has fucked up in mankind's brief history. And it makes me sick.
